Why We Don't Use Seed Oils: The Science Behind Our Choice
Seed oils are everywhere, but are they really healthy? Here's why we've eliminated them from our products.
Walk through any grocery store, and you'll find seed oils (canola, soybean, corn, sunflower) in almost everything. But at CrunchCraft, we made the deliberate choice to avoid them entirely. Here's why.
The Problem with Seed Oils
Seed oils contain high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly omega-6 fatty acids. While some omega-6 is necessary, the modern Western diet contains far too much – often 20:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, when the ideal ratio is closer to 4:1.
Key Concerns:
- Highly processed: Extraction involves high heat, chemicals, and industrial processing that can create harmful compounds
- Oxidation: PUFAs are unstable and oxidize easily, potentially creating inflammatory compounds in your body
- Omega-6 imbalance: Excessive omega-6 can promote inflammation when not balanced with omega-3
- Recent introduction: These oils didn't exist in human diet until the 20th century
What We Use Instead
At CrunchCraft, we rely on:
- Coconut oil: Stable saturated fat that doesn't oxidize easily
- Natural fats from nuts: Whole food sources with protective antioxidants
- Egg whites: For binding instead of oils
Our Philosophy
We're not here to demonize any single ingredient, but we are committed to making choices that prioritize long-term health. By avoiding seed oils, we're taking out anything that's questionably harmful to consume over a lifetime.
Your body deserves better than industrially processed oils. That's the CrunchCraft difference.
